Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride strengthens teeth and also prevents decay.  For these reasons, dentists recommend using toothpaste with fluoride, and they use fluoride in several dental treatments.

In fluoride treatments, a relatively high concentrations is used. Prior to treatment, it is very important to have clean teeth.  Your dentist will polish away stains before beginning.  After drying your teeth, the fluoride is applied in the form of a gel, foam or varnish.  It may either be painted on the teeth, or applied using a mouth guard-like tray.  Following treatment, avoid eating or drinking for at least thirty minutes.
