Periodontists specialize in diagnosing and treat gum disease, as well as placing of dental implants. A patient may need to see a periodontist in order to treat periodontal disease, to resolve cosmetics issues concerning gums, or to have an implant placed.
Prosthodontists treat cosmetic concerns and missing or damaged elements of the mouth. They create prostheses such as crowns, bridges, and dentures to maximize visual appeal and function.
An endodontist’s training focuses on diagnosing and resolving tooth pain. They perform procedures relating to the interior of the tooth (such as root canals).
An orthodontist uses braces, retainers and other devices to straighten a patient’s teeth and correct jaw misalignment. They solve problems such as crowded teeth, too much space between teeth, crooked teeth, and jaw issues.
